Mirama serves the peanut and hoisin sauce... together on a dish... on the side!!!

The thing about the pineapple buns is... I think the name in Cantonese translates literally as "pineapple," but the bun is named as such only because of its appearance? And that "pineapple" buns almost never actually have pineapple, but are almost always coconut instead? Though I maybe wrong... this item has always confused me!

Thanks!

I really have no memory of eating the buns, so I asked my Mum to help identify them. She said they were coconut, but you could very well be right.

The hoisin sauce was on the other side of the stack of rice crepes...we've never encountered the peanut sauce before. As one of my sisters is allergic to peanuts, had we known, we would have requested one without the sauce. Interesting to know Calgary restaurants serve it that way.

Great post!

Just wanted to make sure you meant PINEAPPLE buns instead of coconut?

Also, in Calgary, the Chinese donut wrapped in rice crepe is usually accompanied by the peanut sauce (as well as a hoisin-like sauce). Maybe the standard is different in Edmonton?
